About this guide

Useful context,
carefully framed.

We help visitors act with consideration without turning living culture into a list of rigid commandments.

Our editorial approach

Japan Manners Guide is an independent, English-language educational project for visitors. We distinguish legal or venue rules from common customs, name exceptions when they matter, and avoid claims about what all Japanese people think or do.

Sources and updates

Guides are written from established public guidance and common practice, then reviewed for specificity and respectful language. Policies for transport, baths, sacred sites, and accommodation can change. The date on each guide shows its latest review, not a guarantee that every venue follows the same practice.

When this guide and a sign disagree

Follow the sign or staff member. The actual operator or venue is always the authority for its space. Our guidance is designed to help you notice what to check—not to overrule local instructions.

Independence

The MVP has no advertising, affiliate links, paid placement, or paid content. The “from our studio” panel on the home page is a clearly labeled placeholder for a possible future in-house product and does not offer a product for sale.
